October 10th, 1998 Princess Margaret Hospital is located in the city of Nassau on the Beautiful Island of New Providence, The Capital of The Bahamas. The Department of Anaesthesia is headed by Dr. Glen S. Beneby M.B.B.S.(UWI), F.F.A.R.C.S.(LONDON), a patriotic Bahamian, who through blood, sweat and tears, and guided by a dream, the vision and the spiritual commitment, has lead The Department to one that is self sustaining, and second to none in The Caribbean. Dr. Beneby received his early education in The Bahamas, and his medical training at The University of The West Indies and his specialist training at The University of Sheffield, England. He was admitted as a Fellow of The Faculty of Anaesthesia in the Royal College of Surgeons, London, in 1984. He became Head of The Department of Anaesthesia of The Princess Margaret Hospital in 1986. Having patented an anaesthetic mouthguard in 1989, he undertook the additional position of Medical Staff Coordinator of the Hospital which he still holds. Today there are fourteen physicians in The Department with eight certified specialists; The Department of Anaesthesia is complemented by a cadre of Anaesthetic Assistants, Respiratory Technicians and a Biomedical Engineering Unit. In addition, The Department of Anaesthesia manages The Intensive Care Unit, an eight bed multi-discipline unit, lead by a Bahamian, Dr. Mark Weech M.D. Diplomate of The American Board of Anesthesiology.
It is with great pride that Dr. Glen Beneby has implemented yet another first, by bringing The Anaesthesia Department of The Princess Margaret Hospital to the World Wide Web, where we can share our experiences with our colleagues around the world.
